Self propelled artillery is designed to be highly mobile and able to keep up with armored units. This gun, the largest of it's
type in U.S. Army inventory, was made in the 1960s. The M 110 was used extensively in Viet Nam. Only 2 rounds of ammunition were carried on the vehicle. A M 548 Cargo Carrier provided
additional ammunition and transported the crew of five. Set-up time was two minutes. The projectile, weighing more than 200 lbs. is rammed into the breech followed by 30 to 50 lbs. of
propellant bags. The breech is closed and a primer installed. The weapon is then ready to fire. A high explosive projectile can be fired to a range of 21,200 meters (13.2 miles). If a rocket
assisted projectile is selected the range can be extended to more than 29,000 meters (18 miles).
